2009 CEMPROC Art Exposition--Amor y Color: Amar Amandonos, por una Paz sin Violencia
CEMPROC hosted an art exhibition based on the idea of defending the peaceful resolution of conflicts to children and adults, through art and creativity. The following artists were invited to participate and showcase their works of art depicting their vision of peace: Luis Alberto Ruiz Saavedra (Cuba), Nancy Cerda (Ecuador), Alexandra Peñaherrera (Ecuador) and the photographer Pablo Proaño (Ecuador).
The exposition was held at Ventura Mall in Quito, Ecuador from June 13-27, 2009, and included several events related to the message of peace. On Sunday, June 14 the group “Cuyani” young people for peace performed a beautiful folkloric dance, using their movement and colorful costumes to express their message.
On June 18, 2009 a group of students participating in a conflict resolution study abroad program in Quito, hosted by CEMPROC-International in conjunction with the University of Georgia, worked with children ages 11 to 12 from the San Francisco school in Quito to create a mural expressing what peace means to them. The children from the school also created pictures with the theme “my world in peace,” through which they expressed their wish for a safer world to grow up in.
On June 20th, CEMPROC-Ecuador with the international director, Jeff Pugh, and 25 children created a group picture with the theme “my world in peace” in the food court of Ventura Mall. All of the participants expressed their message with acrylics, pencils, and their hands. The exposition finished on June 27, 2009. The works of art below are for sale .
