Conflict Management in the Educational Context

CEMPROC - Ecuador and the Center for Popular Education and Promotion (CEPP) have collaborated
to design a conflict management course to train teachers in appropriate conflict
resolution techniques for the classroom and school. It is important to equip teachers, who
are instrumental in shaping the values and attitudes that young students form, with the tools
to practice effective and peaceful conflict resolution in the classroom, providing good examples
for their students and easing the tensions and conflicts that are a daily part of most
school settings. Drawing on the educational and pedagogical experience and contacts of
CEPP, and using an adapted version of CEMPROC's training curriculum and course materials, this
collaborative course will reach an important constituency in the effort to reduce destructive
conflict in Latin America and the United States. Although it has not yet been presented to a
public audience, the course has already generated significant
interest from school officials and teachers in Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador.
The trainers are
CEMPROC Executive Director Jeff Pugh and Director of Education at CEPP, Cecilia Amaluisa.
